Ultrasound

What is a Medical Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is an imaging exam without radiation that uses sound waves to visualize internal organs, soft tissues, and blood vessels.
It is a fast, non-invasive, and safe method, often available without waiting times in private clinics.

🔍 What types of ultrasounds are available?

🔹 General Ultrasound

  • Abdominal ultrasound
Visualizes the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, and pancreas. Used for abdominal pain, digestive disorders, or detection of masses.

  • Pelvic ultrasound
Examines the uterus, ovaries, and bladder, mainly in women.

  • Transvaginal ultrasound
A detailed gynecological exam, often used for fertility monitoring or pelvic pain.

  • Thyroid and neck ultrasound
Evaluates the thyroid gland, lymph nodes, and local abnormalities.

  • Scrotal / testicular ultrasound
Examines the testicles, epididymis, and checks for masses, cysts, or pain.

  • Prostate ultrasound
Used to assess the prostate, often performed via the transrectal route.

  • Hernia ultrasound
Confirms the presence of abdominal or inguinal hernias.

  • Small parts and surface ultrasound
For lymph nodes, salivary glands, superficial masses, etc.

🔹 Specialized Ultrasound

  • Breast ultrasound
Complements mammography, especially useful for younger women or those with dense breast tissue.

  • Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound
Visualizes muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints, particularly after trauma or in cases of chronic pain.

  • Pediatric ultrasound
For infants and children (kidneys, hips, abdomen, etc.).

  • Obstetric ultrasound (1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester)
Monitors fetal development, growth, placenta, and amniotic fluid.

  • Venous Doppler ultrasound
Detects clots (thrombosis), varicose veins, or venous insufficiency.

  • Arterial Doppler ultrasound
Evaluates arterial circulation, especially in cases of peripheral vascular disease.

  • Radiation-free hysterosalpingography (HSG) [coming soon]
Assesses fallopian tube patency as part of fertility evaluations.
